soliloquies

soliloquies, my seventh chapbook, was written during 2026 January 1; it is 22 pages, excluding the front cover. I don’t remember much about why or how I started writing it other than the fact that I wrote it on paper, in a spiral-bound notebook.

I wrote soliloquies throughout the day; I presume it was an attempt to capture my consciousness moving into the year 2026. “inauguration” specifically was a sort of happenstance, as my mother turned on the TV to watch the inauguration of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani live; I did not know it was set for that day.

The voice with parentheses is meant to represent the harsher, more cynical self, while the voice without is meant to represent the main, greater self; soliloquies seems to me an attempt to reconcile the two, to get them to come out and talk to one another.
